Carcassonne - La Cite and Bastide St Louis
Carcassonne is in the Aude, departement 11 in Languedoc Roussillon in the south of France. It's about 700 km south of Paris. Although most people think of La Cite when they think of Carcassonne there is another old part of the city, La Bastide St Louis. It was also fortified and parts of the walls still stand and have been incorporated into buildings.
Bastide St Louis is the more 'day to day' part of Carcassonne. Place Carnot is the centre and is always a good place to people watch, especially on market days, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
